Division of Environmental Medicine Education

Our trainees gain the skills they need to launch successful careers in environmental medicine.

Training the next generation of scientists to solve complex problems in environmental health sciences is essential to keeping our communities safe. In the Division of Environmental Medicine at NYU Langone, our graduate programs cover a range of specialties and prepare students to excel as investigators and professionals.

We also welcome postdoctoral researchers in our laboratories. Postdocs who would like to find out more about open positions can email the faculty researcher they are interested in working with.

Graduate Training in Environmental Health Sciences

Our PhD and MS programs in environmental health sciences train students in the latest tools and methodologies through comprehensive didactics and hands-on research in our faculty laboratories. These programs are offered through NYU Graduate School of Arts and Science.

Environmental health sciences research concentrations include exposure assessment and health effects, molecular toxicology and carcinogenesis, and systemic toxicology. Students who choose the systemic toxicology concentration can specialize in inhalation toxicology or aquatic toxicology.

Graduate Training in Biostatistics and Epidemiology

Our faculty also teach students enrolled in PhD training programs in biostatistics and epidemiology. These programs are offered through the Vilcek Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences and emphasize interdisciplinary research.

Graduate Training in Ergonomics and Biomechanics

We also administer the PhD program in ergonomics and biomechanics offered through NYU Langone Occupational and Industrial Orthopedic Center. This innovative program is the only accredited degree program that combines the fields of ergonomics and biomechanics.

Financial Support for Graduate Students

All full-time PhD students and most MS students engaged in laboratory research programs receive graduate assistant stipends plus full tuition and fees. In the 2022–23 academic year, stipends were $40,000 for PhD students and $18,000 for MS students.
